So your hard drive has crashed, or your laptop went over the side of the boat and although you recovered it, there is no way to get all your data back. In today's world, that is not necessarily the end of the story. Many service companies have appeared in recent years where they make a big business out of taking a disk drive with "unrecoverable" data and actually recovered most, and in many cases ALL of it.

These companies perform this task by operating in "clean rooms". Remember, even a strand of hair is bigger than the space between the hard drive heads and the disk platter itself where your data is stored. These companies employ a variety of high-tech and industrial methods to recover your data, even if they need to do it bit by bit and character by character. They have tools that allow them to read the data on the disk sector by sector (assuming there is not physical damage to the drive surface), even bypassing the disk's directory structure if the directory structure is the part that got trashed. Many of these companies that perform data recovery services are claiming a success rate of greater than 85%.

Be aware that this is not cheap! In fact, it is downright expensive, often costing an order of magnitude more than the cost of the physical hard drive itself. But then again, if you don't have a backup and the data on that drive is critical to the continued operations of your business, and you just MUST get that data back despite the cost, this is an option for you to consider that can provide the desired results.
